Eye of the Beholder

I’m not sure where you are at, but this week it has started to cool off and feel like fall here in Indiana.  It’s time to get creepy and settle down to a good horror flic.  My favorite time of year!

Urban Exploration:

I don’t get to do it hardly at all any more, but I use to do a lot of urban exploration.  I would take video and photo of the places I went.  It was a lot of fun and would love to do more of it in the future.  These are some of the photos that were taken.

This was a picture that was meant to be for a kids book but we soon realized that it was way too intense.  I thought it was still a great picture so, while Samal McNealy drew it, I got to do the coloring, graphic design and texture.  What do you think?  Did it turn out cool?

Marston House:

This is a house that was down the road from where I live.  We had a tornado and it hit it hard.  A few weeks ago they took the rest down, but before that I got some pictures and added my special touch to it.  I hope you enjoy!

The Doctor:

This is a picture I took when I was cleaning.  I took it into photoshop and creeped myself out with how it turned out! =)

Peter T-Shirt:

I wanted to create a Peter Steele tribute shirt and this is one that I came up with.  He had a small cult following but influence a lot of people with his music.

This was a project where I needed some computer wall so there was a day I made a few of them.  For this one, I wanted something a little grungy and something a little gothic.  If you are looking for something designed, colored, or trying to find a way to get your stuff printed, send me an email and I’ll see what I can do for you.

The Body:

This was a wallpaper design that I created for myself.  I used Photoshop to create this.  I was after a dark warn look that I wanted to add anatomy poster images to.

I love this picture.  It came out pretty cool.  I try to stretch myself to do things I normally wouldn’t do to see if I can do it.  This is something I put together not too long ago.

Gore vs. Suspense:

Over the years I have noticed in horror or even action films, gore has gone from somewhat realistic to realistic, to over the top and not realistic.  I’m personally a fan of older films that has some gore or next to none at all.  In my opinion they did very well because they used suspense, good story telling, and creative camera shots.  I watch some of the films that come out today and it almost seems like they replace the lack of story telling/creative film shooting with lots of gore and violence.  This is why a lot of new films are left by the way side in a short amount of time and more or less forgotten about.  I can honestly say that we can learn a thing or two from Asian horror films.  Yes there is still gore and violence (but not all the time), but their story telling and camera shots are amazing.  I can count on one hand how many recent horror films that I want to add to my library.  At the same time, I have tons of older films that I have backlogged that I want to add to my horror film library.  Hopefully we will get back to making great horror films here in American on an ongoing basis once again.
